Ryan Murphy

Ryan Murphy has been playing guitar ever since the late Gord Downie told him, “I think you might like it.” Inspired by music of every kind, especially great guitarists, he taught himself to play by ear. Later, he found his own voice singing bass in a men’s barbershop chorus, alongside his uncle.

Songwriting quickly became the heart of Ryan’s musical journey. Equally at home unplugged or electrified, his catchy original songs move effortlessly between acoustic ballads, blues-infused stomps, and gritty rock anthems. Tying it all together is a distinctive blend of wit, wisdom, swagger, and poetic storytelling.

Ryan spent more than a decade rocking the Okanagan, playing guitar and bass in a variety of projects; performing solo, accompanying, and fronting bands before returning to his roots in the Kootenays. When he’s not on stage, he lives off-grid with his wife and daughter, writing songs for his next album while apprenticing as a carpenter.
